EMPLOYMENT

The employment practice provides a full range of employment law services for employers of all sizes—ranging from large corporations and international nonprofits to high-tech and traditional business start-ups.

We provide nuanced and discerning counsel to employers on a variety of sensitive matters, including progressive discipline and terminations, negotiation of severance/separation pay, executive performance management, and addressing claims of discrimination and harassment, retaliation, whistleblowing, and ethical breaches. We also assist clients in policy development, review, and revision.

  • Counseled business client in working through final discipline, termination, and negotiation of separation agreements with key employees.

    Represented client at successful pre-litigation mediation of dispute grounded in claims of negligent hiring and negligent supervision.

    Provided disparate impact analysis for global nonprofit in major restructure involving layoff and/or reassignment of hundreds of employees.

    Assisted in substantive revision of policies including social media, conflict of interest, and work-from-home policies.

    Advised regional managers on complex performance counseling issues with a senior area leader.

    Counseled executives on administrative leave where there were workplace safety concerns in light of pending discipline.

 
 

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

The government compliance practice helps businesses and international nonprofits comply with existing regulations, respond to regulatory inquiries, and anticipate new developments. The firm develops compliance programs and provides training in and implementation of effective compliance strategies. The firm possesses deep experience in engaging in charitable work overseas with and through local NGOs and international grantmaking programs. The firm also advises on OFAC compliance, international trade and import-export enforcement, and corporate immigration enforcement and audits.

  • Assessed OFAC sanctions exposure based on client’s activity in multiple sanctioned countries, determining whether specific licenses were required.

    Implemented compliance software for automated searching of SDN and related lists for client’s key constituents and partners.

    Provided analysis and suggested revisions for client’s international grantmaking policies and procedures.

    Provided OFAC compliance overview and training to key members of organization’s finance team.
